That’s how I discovered the Havening Techniques® ("Havening").


Introduced to me by colleagues, I observed that Havening quickly stood out as a powerful way to help parents feel calmer when preparing for their birth and rebalance after challenging birth experiences.


During my training to become a Certified Havening Techniques® Practitioner, I experienced its transformative effects firsthand, inspiring me to share these techniques with others.

What are the Havening Techniques?

The Havening Techniques® are considered part of the field of Complementary & Integrative Health. Havening is described as a psycho-sensory approach that uses gentle touch, visualization, and focused attention intended to help separate emotional responses to difficult memories. Havening is designed to reduce stress and build confidence, with the goal of leaving you feeling more resilient and in control.

The best part? You can learn Havening as a self-help tool for you to use on your own, whenever you need it. While it is not possible to provide any guarantees, most clients report experiencing significant benefits in just 1 to 3 sessions, giving them the tools that can help them manage their emotional well-being independently. What are the Havening Techniques®?

The Havening Techniques®, often referred to simply as Havening, are comprised of a number of protocols. Havening is described as a psycho-sensory modality based on the fields of neuroscience and neurobiology that uses sensory input in order to alter thought, mood, and behavior. The experience of Havening combines gentle touch, simple distraction and imagination.

How is Havening designed to work?

Havening is designed to make changes in the brain in order to de-stress and remove from both the psyche and the body the emotional memory of an upsetting or stressful life event and its negative effects. The core of Havening involves Havening Touch ® which generally includes light stroking around the face and from the top of the shoulders down the arms of the client.

What conditions can Havening help address?

Havening can be used to support a range of issues depending on the practitioner’s legally defined scope of practice. Certified Havening Techniques Practitioners can use Havening in a coaching or wellness practice to help with stress-related conditions, and even enhance resilience and performance. It’s considered a versatile tool suitable for emotional well-being and personal development.

Who can use the Havening Techniques?

In a professional setting Havening can only be used by Certified Havening Techniques Practitioners. Through these certified practitioners, an individual can learn Havening as a self-help tool but only for personal use. While Havening is considered straightforward, it is advised that individuals only work with a Certified Havening Techniques Practitioner because they have been properly trained to use Havening in a professional setting. Using a certified practitioner can often lead to a deeper and more effective experience. .

How quickly can Havening work?

As with any modality it is not possible to provide any guarantees. The effectiveness of Havening can vary from person to person. Some individuals may experience relief after just one session, while others may require multiple sessions to address more deeply rooted issues.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with Havening?

While Havening is considered a gentle and non-invasive safe technique, as with any wellness approach, there are some risks. It is possible to experience some physical discomfort and/or emotional distress during or after a Havening session
